The final stage of the first Forum of the studying youth of Khorog town was held recently in the Aga Khan Lycee. 130 pupils, 13 school directors and organizers of the forum took part in the event. As was mentioned by the CEO of the Aga Khan Education Services in GBAO, Shelina Karmali, the forum was established in April 2006 to study the reasons for conflict, discontent and violence emerging among the youth of Khorog town. According to her, the main reasons for violence among the youth are unimplemented initiatives directed towards organization of free time, improvement of creative craftsmanship and others. 'The forum particularly aimed at searching and realizing such initiatives and creative work of the studying youth, - noted Ms. Karmali. - For this purpose the pupils of each school, with the help of forum facilitators and school administration, set up initiative groups of ten people'. The groups, according to her, during the summer holidays were introduced with the methods of studying the problems of the youth, and after that with the start of the school year they embarked on studying the problems of the youth in their own schools. 'As a result, with the help of the activists of senior classes several different sports and intellectual competitions were held among senior students, and they met with their counterparts of the same age from other schools of the town', concluded Ms. Karmali. A sample of such events was demonstrated during the forum as well. 'Conducting such events facilitated not only the realization of the youth's initiatives, and their introduction with one another, but also their rapprochement', - noted the representatives of education and the directors of several schools in their speeches.
